Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – Two extra sessions weren't enough to decide a winner on Thursday night as Southern Wesleyan forced a 1-1 tie with No. 25 Martin Methodist in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first half but MMC's Jonathan Redmond broke open the scoreless tie with a shot in the 51st minute. Juan Quintero scored on a free kick in the 75th to knot the game at 1-1. It was the first goal of the season for Quintero.
The Warriors (4-4-2, 1-3-1 SSAC) were able to keep all 11 players on the pitch for the entire match, the first time in four games that has happened, and that clearly helped in hanging with the 25th-ranked RedHawks.
Ruben Rodriguez came up big again for the Warriors, making six stops including five in the second half alone. Rodriguez saved his best for last though, stopping MMC's final attempt with his legs as the clock was winding down.
SWU was able to take 11 shots in the game, putting five on frame while Martin Methodist (5-2-1, 2-2-1 SSAC) took 17 shots. The RedHawks earned nine corners to only four for the Warriors but weren't able to convert.
The Warriors will travel to Bethel (Tenn.) for a Saturday afternoon match slated for 4 p.m.
