First Place Finishes and School Record Performance by Lea Lead Warriors at John Hunter Classic

Columbia, SC – Southern Wesleyan hit top marks at the John Hunter Classic over the weekend.  Happy Lea broke the school record in the 110 meter hurdles during the meet.

Track Results

100m: Dominic Gonzalez took 19th with a time of 11.47 in the 100 meters.  Gonzalez was followed by Bertin Manzi who took 38th with a time of 12.07.

110mh: Happy Lea led the whole field in the 110 meter hurdles as he took first with a time of 14.86 setting a new school record in the process.

200m: In the 200 meters, Jaden Warner took eleventh with a time of 22.73.  Dominic Gonzalez and Aziah Gaskin were the next two Warriors to finish.  Gonzalez took 23rd with a time of 23.50 and Gaskin took 29th with a time of 23.77.  Bertin Manzi finished in 45th with a time of 24.75.

400m: Southern Wesleyan's Nate Hill led the whole field in the 400 meters as his time of 49.66 allowed him to take first place.  Behind Hill, Ethan Marchman took third place with a time of 50.08.  They were followed by Solomon Pitts and Dustyn Scruggs.  The older of the Pitts' brothers took eighth with a time of 50.81 and Scruggs finished right behind him in ninth with a time of 50.82.  Jaden Warner was the next Warrior to finish as he took 12th with a time of 51.22.  Josiah Pitts and Aziah Gaskin followed Warner.  The younger Pitts' brother took 16th with a time of 51.58 while Gaskin took 23rd with a time of 52.32.

400mh: Taking seventh in the 400 meter hurdles, Eli Powell finished in 1:02.22.

800m: Ethan Marchman finished in eighth in the 800 meters as he crossed the finish line with a time of 2:00.23.  Marchman was followed by Grady Clark who took 14th with a time of 2:03.87.  Grayson Gillespie was the next Warrior to finish as he took 28th with a time of 2:12.70.

1500m: Junior Ronan O'Neill led the whole field in the 1500 meters.  O'Neill took first as he finished with a time of 4:04.05.  He was followed by Kaden Reeder who took fifth place with a time of 4:14.21.  Caleb Richardson and Jesse Sauve were the next two Warriors to finish.  Richardson took eighth with a time of 4:19.01 and Sauve took 11th with a time of 4:28.02.  Thomas Macagg took 18th with a time of 4:32.87.  Andrew Davis and John Locke were the next two Warriors to finish.  Davis took 23rd with a time of 4:36.10 and Locke took 29th with a time of 4:44.64.

5000m: Drew Jones led the Warriors in the 5000 meters as he took 10th place with a time of 15:16.70.  Just seconds behind him, Ronan O'Neill took 11th with a time of 15:16.84.  Grady Clark finished in 16th with a time of 15:40.39 and Kaden Reeder took 17th with a time of 15:41.18.  Finishing in 19th, Grayson Gillespie crossed the finish line with a time of 15:44.59.  Josue Avendano wrapped up the field for the Warriors as he took 33rd with a time of 17:15.56.

4x400 Meter Relay: Southern Wesleyan's team took seventh with a time of 3:37.76.

 

Field Results

Javelin: In the javelin, the Warriors were led by Happy Lea.  Lea took third place in the javelin after he threw 45.42m.  He was followed by Mason Griffiths who finished in eighth place with a throw of 41.66m.  Rusty Chappell took 11th with a throw of 36.06m.

High Jump: Wilontae Anderson took second in the high jump as he cleared a height of 2.00m.  Anderson was followed by Isaiah Gamble who took fifth with a jump of 1.75m.

Shot Put: The Warriors were led by Titus Thompson in the shot put.  Thompson threw 8.67 meters to put him in 21st.  Behind him, Rusty Chappell threw 8.39 meters to take 22nd place.

Discus: Sophomore Mason Griffiths finished in sixth place in the discus as he threw 37.21 meters.

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel to Montreat, NC on March 21-22 to compete in the Montreat College Open.  The Warriors will host their second meet of the 2025 season on March 28-29 as they welcome teams to Central, SC and the Joe R Gilbert Track and Field Complex for the Gotta Run Invite.  The Warriors compete in the Electric City Invitational in Anderson, SC on April 4-5.
