How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan was led by Owen Kinnunen in the AU/Erskine Currahee Invitational. Kinnunen started strong in the first round of the tournament. He shot just two over par in round one for a 74. In the second round, Kinnunen carded a 72 allowing him to move up to 25th in the standings. He went on to shoot a 73 in the final round to give him a 219 total round score and allow him to finish in a tie for 25th place.
Following him in the tournament was Andrew Baxley. The freshman out of North Augusta, SC shot just four over par in round one for a 76. Baxley fought back in the second round of the tournament as he shot one under par for a 71. In the final round, he shot an 81 to give him a 228 total round score and allow him to finish in a tie for 51st.
Just behind Baxley was Ben Sanders. Sanders was closely behind Kinnunen in standings in the first round as he shot a 75. He continued to battle in the second round as he carded a 74, just two over par. In the final round of the tournament, he shot an 80 to give him a 229 total round score and allow him to finish in a tie for 55th.
In the first round of the AU/Erskine Currahee Invitational, Kieran Parkins shot a 75, just three over par. In round two, Parkins shot a 77. He went on to card an 87 in the final round of the tournament to put him in a tie for 72nd with a total round score of 239.
Wrapping up the field for the Warriors was JP Reed. In his first collegiate tournament, Reed led off the first round with a 78. He went on to shoot a 74 in the second round. In the third and final round, he shot a 92 to give him a 244 total round score. He finished in a tie for 77th place.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will compete in the Bob Dibble Memorial hosted by the Tusculum Pioneers on October 13-14 in Chuckey, TN. They will then travel just down the road to Ninety Six, SC to compete in the Bearcat Fall Classic on October 20-21.
