Box Score Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan picked up their second win of the 2019-20 season as they took down the Emmanuel Lions in a 64-58 final score.
The Warriors shot 41.1% from the field and went 59.1% from the free throw line. Emily Waters led the team with 16 points. She was followed by Tanayja Williams with 13 and Lisana Burnett with 11. Southern Wesleyan had eight assists with Waters and Burnett leading the team with three apiece.
Southern Wesleyan had 29 rebounds during the game. Lisana Burnett led the team with eight. She was followed by Emily Waters with seven. Burnett recorded nine of the 15 steals of the game. She went on to lead the team with two of the four blocks.

"Proud to see this team compete and finish this game. We have hit adversity all year and for them to stick this out and play like we did was good to see. We were efficient offensively in the second half and our defensive presence was consistently good all night. This was our first win against Emmanuel since we made the transition to NCAA Division II."
How It Happened
The Lions kicked off the first quarter with a 3-pointer by Breanna Locke, but the Warriors countered on a 3-point jump shot by Tanayja Williams to tie the game at three points apiece. A jump shot by Emily Waters put the Warriors on top 5-3. The Warriors continued to push ahead on a layup by Denisha Hall, but the Lions countered by jump shot of their own to get back within two points. Emmanuel continued to challenge, taking the lead on a layup by Jazmin Allen.
Southern Wesleyan maintained their pressure in the second quarter as Emily Waters made back-to-back baskets to put the Warriors on top 14-13. Emmanuel fought back to regain the lead, but Southern Wesleyan quickly countered with a layup by Lisana Burnett to put the Warriors back on top. The Lions tied the game up on a layup by Emily Dreslinski and then took the lead on a jump shot by Locke. The Warriors continued to put on the pressure as Aneysa Williams laid the ball up to put Southern Wesleyan down three points. The Lions led the Warriors 29-23 at the half.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the third quarter with a layup by Lisana Burnett and a jump shot by Emily Waters to put the Warriors down 27-29. The Lions maintained their lead with a three point shot by Breanna Locke, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a three pointer of their own as Tanayja Williams put the ball into the basket. A three pointer by Caroline Reese put the Warriors down one point with just over four minutes left in the third quarter.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the final quarter with free throws by Emily Waters to tie the game at 42-points apiece, however Emmanuel regained the lead on a three pointer by Allison Smith. The Warriors kept it close as Waters sunk a jump shot to make the score 44-45. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Emmanuel as Lisana Burnett and Tanayja Williams each made baskets to put the Warriors ahead 52-45. With just over a minute to play, Denisha Hall made a layup to put the Warriors up by ten points. A last second layup by Waters allowed the Warriors to take a 64-58 point victory over the Lions.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 8 as they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries at 2 p.m. They will then travel up to the mountains as they take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats on February 12. The Warriors will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 15 to welcome the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 2 p.m.
