Box Score Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped an intense game to the Chowan Hawks on Wednesday evening in a 69-58 final score.
The Warriors shot 36% from the field in the loss. Emily Waters led the team with 16 points. She was followed by Denisha Hall and Aneysa Williams with 10 points each. Brooke Henrinks recorded two of the six assists.
Southern Wesleyan collected 35 rebounds with Lisana Burnett leading the team with nine. She was followed by Emily Waters with six. Burnett posted seven of the 10 steals during the game.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan and Chowan kept each other off the board for the first two minutes of play until a foul allowed Aneysa Williams to take free throws to put the Warriors ahead 2-0. The Hawks fought back sinking a layup and three point shot to put them ahead 5-3. A three-point shot by Williams allowed the Warriors to stay within one point of the Hawks. The Warriors continued to pressure the Hawks with a layup by Halee Morrison to tie the game 10-10.
The Warriors kicked off the second quarter on back-to-back baskets by Emily Waters allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a 14-11 point advantage over Chowan. Caroline Reese sunk a three point jump shot to allow the Warriors to take a 20-13 point lead. Southern Wesleyan continued to stand strong against Chowan's defensive attacks, leading 26-20 at the half.
Chowan kicked off the third quarter with a layup by Keibra Hopkins, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a layup by Denisha Hall to maintain their six point lead. The Hawks challenged, but Lisana Burnett and Aneysa Williams put the ball into the hoop to keep the Warriors ahead 25-33. Chowan continued to push around Southern Wesleyan's defense, going on a five point run to put them down 35-36. Back-to-back baskets by Aniah Patterson allowed the Hawks to take a 41-39 point lead.
The Hawks took a 12 point lead on a layup by Destiny Robinson to start the final quarter of play. However, Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Chowan as Denisha Hall made a layup to put the score at 53-43. The Warriors continued to put up a fight with layups by Lisana Burnett and Halee Morrison. Despite a last second layup by Emily Waters and a 3-pointer by Diamond Ellison, the Warriors dropped the game 69-58.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs on February 22 at 2 p.m. They will then close out regular season on February 25 as they welcome the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 5:30 p.m.
