Warriors Place High in First Indoor Meet of the Season

Winston-Salem, NC – Southern Wesleyan set new records in the first meet of the 2019-20 season on Saturday.

 

How It Happened

Track

60 Meters : Jordan Blue took 18th in the qualifying rounds of the 60 meters with a time of 7.22.

400 Meters : In his first track meet of his collegiate career, Skylik Smalls took 30th with a time of 53.43.  Fredrick Carson took 54th with a time of 1:01.09.

800 Meters : Southern Wesleyan was led by Jacob Harris and Konnor Palacios in the 800 meters.  Harris took 18th with a time of 2:07.74 and Palacios took 19th with a time of 2:07.94.  Michael Griffin was right on his heels as he took 23rd with a time of 2:09.47.  Kaleb Jackson wrapped up the field for the Warriors, taking 37th with a time of 2:19.27.

3000 Meters : Konnor Palacios led the Warriors in the 3000 meters as he crossed the finish line with a time of 9:14.30 to take 11th place.  Palacios was followed by Michael Griffin and Peyton Shelton.  Griffin took 17th with a time of 9:38.64 and Shelton finished in 23rd with a time of 10:09.11.

60 Meter Hurdles : Leonard Holmes led the Warriors in the 60 meter hurdles.  Holmes' time of 8.46 allowed him to take seventh place.

 

Field

High Jump : Chandler Whittle took ninth in the high jump with a jump of 1.90 meters.

Long Jump : The Warriors were led by Bryce Bennett in the long jump.  His jump of 6.86 meters not only set a new school record, but also allowed him to gain a top ten finish as he claimed sixth place.

Shot Put : Christian Swindle led the Warriors in the shot put.  He took eighth with a throw of 12.91 meters.  He was closely followed by Keauntai Robinson with a throw of 12.90 meters to take 10th place.

Weight Throw : Keauntai Robinson took 13th in the weight throw with a distance throw of 13.34 meters.  Christian Swindle followed with a throw of 13.07 meters to earn a 15th place finish.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next take part in Christmas break before returning in January.  The Warriors will return on January 10-11 to take part in the ETSU Invitational in Johnson City, TN.  They will then travel to Columbia, SC to take part in the USC Gamecock Invite.
