Coach Morrell says…

"Great win tonight, very hard fought.  We played well and were creative in the first half, up 2-0 at half.  Second half, King played really well and kept great pressure on us.  We struggled getting any rhythm in the second half, but defended well and played with a lot of energy and heart.  Really great team win, and I'm happy for the girls!"

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan attacked early as Rachel Curtis attacked the net, but her ball soared over the net.  The Warriors would not let up as Ashley Romanowski weaved around the Tornado defense and put the ball into the back of the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead and make her the new career goal leader for Southern Wesleyan.  King countered with several shots on the net, but Jen Golio and the Warriors defense continued to defend their territory for the Tornado attacks.  Southern Wesleyan would not let up as Curtis, Romanowski, Makala Latsch and Heily Hernandez attacked the net, looking to extend the Warriors lead.  Their attacks paid off as Hernandez got around the defense to allow Southern Wesleyan to extend their lead to 2-0 at the half.

King pressured early with shots on goal by Hope Lissitz and Erin Peters, but Jen Golio deflected each attack.  The Warriors countered right back as Molly Wanning looked to put the ball into the net, but Celia Patterson took the ball out of the air to prevent the Warriors from pushing ahead.  The Tornado continued to look to get around the Warriors defense, but Ashton Irby and the Warriors defense protected their goalkeeper to prevent King from pushing around.  Despite several more shots by Makala Latsch and Bryanna Pickens, the Tornado would not let the Warriors extend their lead.  Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game by 2-0.
