Warriors Beat Rams in NCCAA Post Season

Warriors gain upper ground in overtime action against the Columbia International University Rams.

The Southern Wesleyan University Warriors came into the NCCAA South Region Semi-Final ready to prove themselves yet again.  The game was tough as they took on the Columbia International University Rams.  The Rams were 5-12-1 over the course of the season, while the Warriors held a 10-8-1 record.

Southern Wesleyan University and Columbia International University proved that this game would not be an easy win for either team early on.  Each team taking turns dribbling the ball from one side of the field to the other.  Nestor Gonzalez took the first shot on goal for the Warriors, however the Warriors attempts to score were uneventful.  As half time came and passed, neither team could touch the net and were forced into overtime action.

The Warriors and Rams went into the first overtime period with the game tied 0-0, neither team ready to admit to defeat.  With 4 minutes left in free soccer, Michel Herszenhaut took the ball around the Rams defense to score the lone goal of the game and give victory to the Warriors.

"The guys did well to get the win today," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Garrett Bireline.  He continued, "We did what it takes."

Miguel Uribe contributed with 5 saves.  The Warriors took 22 shots on goal, and the Rams took 9 shots.

The Warriors will advance to the next round of play which will be held Saturday, November 19 at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA.  The game will be against the Emmanuel College Lions at 6 p.m.
