How It Happened
Emmanuel went on the offensive early on in the match as Mario Ramirez put up a shot, but freshman Jonah Keoughan was there to quickly collect the ball. Southern Wesleyan countered with shots by Leonardo Flores and Matias Garnier. However, Bryan Amezcua and the Lions defense were able to prevent each of the Warriors attacks on the net from paying off. Nathan Walker crossed the ball to Dylan Persinger who scored to give the Lions the lead after thirty-two minutes had expired. Emilio Cordero charged down the field to go one-on-one with the keeper, but a late offsides call put the ball back in the Lions hands.
Southern Wesleyan would not relent as Dillon Bennett and Brody Schroeder put up back-to-back shots on the net. Bryan Amezcua stood strong on the back line as he knocked away each of their attacks. Once again, Schroeder rushed down the field, but Amezcua was there to save the attack again. The Warriors peppered the goal with shots by Schroeder, Matias Garnier, Mason Councill and Leonardo Flores, but each attack was thwarted by the Lions' defense. The Lions rallied off shots in the final seconds off the feet of Rezhis Koxhaj and Preston Smith, but Jonah Keoughan was there to knock each attack away. Emmanuel went on to claim the game in a 1-0 final.
