Second Half Surge Leads to Warrior Victory

Box Score

Warriors score two in second half to win the game.

The excitement in the stands was high as Homecoming weekend at Southern Wesleyan Unviersity brought in one of the highest crowds of the season to watch the soccer game. North Greenville struck first in this afternoon's debate, scoring an early goal by Chris Inman.  While the Warriors fought back, the Crusaders held them scoreless in the first half of the game.

The Warriors came back from half time ready to rally.  With the Homecoming crowd cheering around them, the team began to come alive.  In the 58th minute of play, Christian Taylor scored the first goal for the Warriors, tying the game 1-1.  However, the Warriors were not done there.  Minutes after the goal by Taylor, Marcelo Vargas scored a goal to make the final score 2-1.

"It was great to be out in front of our Homecoming crowd and get a result," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Garrett Bireline.  He continued, "North Greenville was very committed and had a good game plan.  The guys did a good job of staying patient and helping us to another conference win."

Miguel Uribe contributed with 6 saves and the Warriors had nine shots on goal in the afternoon debate.  The Warriors record rises to 9-6 and 5-4 in Conference Carolinas while the North Greenville Crusaders become 1-10-1 and 0-9-1 in conference play.

The Warriors will return to Childs Field on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. where they will take on Anderson University.  They will then be home on Saturday, October 29 to take on University of Mount Olive for Senior Day.
