Newberry, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Newberry Wolves on the road on Wednesday evening in a 3-1 final score.
The Warriors totaled 18 shots with seven being on target in their victory over the Wolves of Newberry. Josiah Pitts led the Warriors in their scoring endeavors as he picked up his first brace of the year. The other goal of the game came off the foot of Sebastian Zumbado. Mason Councill collected his first assist of his collegiate career. Defensively, Jonah Keoughan played all ninety minutes in the goal and had one save awarded to him.

How It Happened
The Wolves were on the board early in the game as just four minutes in, Giuseppe Gereau collected a pass from Ben Curtis and got the ball into the back of the net. However, the Warriors answered as Jacob Zuniga and Michael Boyle each put up shots. Neither Zuniga nor Boyle's attacks found the net. The Warriors would not relent as Mason Councill was able to get the ball over to Josiah Pitts. Pitts drilled the ball into the net to equalize the game at the half.
Southern Wesleyan increased their attacks on the net in the second half as Ramon Estrada, Jacob Zuniga and John Gonzalez repeatedly attacked the net. However, Charlie Clark and the Wolves back line continually blocked each of the Warriors attacks to prevent them from taking the advantage. Josiah Pitts went on the offensive again as he got past the defense and scored his second goal of the game for his first collegiate brace. Seconds later, Sebastian Zumbado went on a break away and sent the ball into the net to give the Warriors a 3-1 goal victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will open up Conference Carolinas on the road as they travel to Young Harris, GA to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions on September 5 at 3:30pm. They will then travel to Greeneville, TN to take on the Tusculum Pioneers on September 9. On September 12, the Warriors will return to Central, SC to take on the Barton Bulldogs.
