Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - The Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team picked up a nice nonconference road win in the Spring Hill Classic on Friday afternoon, defeating the host team 3-2 at Library Field. Christian Taylor scored the first two goals of the game and Michel Herszenhout netted the game winner.
"I'm really happy for our guys," said head coach Camilo Rodriguez. "Even though we didn't play great we were able to come from behind and get another road win and that is what is important."
The Badgers got on the board three minutes into play as sophomore forward Viktor Kvarnlof scored from about three yards out after receiving an entry pass from forward Ibrahima Ndaw.
Less than eight minutes later the Warriors would answer with a goal as sophomore Christian Taylor scored off of a 20 yard entry pass from junior Michel Herszenhout who was running up the right sideline. The 1-1 score would hold until halftime.
In the 55th minute, Kvarnlof scored his sixth of the season and second of the game when his shot went off the fingertips of Ruben Rodriguez, the SWU goalkeeper, and into the upper right corner with an assist from Jack LaForge. The Warriors would rally once more and tally the game-tying goal in the 61st minute as the Taylor-Herszenhout duo struck again, this time with another one-on-one score on the left side from 10-yards out. The two goals on the night were the fifth and sixth of the season for Taylor.
In the 64th minute of play, Herszenhout scored a goal of his own after assisting on the first two of the nigiht. The junior would score the eventual game-winner with a blast from 12 yards out and in the middle of the box after an entry pass from right side through traffic by Sebastian Castro. The goal was the eighth of the season for Herszenhout who leads Southern Wesleyan in goals scored.
The Warriors had 16 shots to the Badgers' eight, though both teams had five corner kicks. Rodriguez picked up four saves in the win.
The Warriors return to the field Saturday, Nov. 7 against Palm Beach Atlantic at 2 p.m. ET in the team's final game of the tournament and final game of the regular season.
