Box Score

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Behind goals from two freshmen, the Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team extended it's winning streak to four games with a 2-0 win over Columbia International on Tuesday night. The Warriors are now 7-3-1 on the season while Columbia International falls to 5-5 overall.

"I'm really happy to see the guys stepping up," said head coach Camilo Rodriguez. "Our team showed a lot of character and heart tonight. I hope we can carry this momentum into our next game."

In the 13th minute of play freshman Abraham Arredondo scored the first goal of his collegiate career as he charged in on a nice cross over the middle from teammate Ivan Malagon. The 1-0 Warrior lead would hold until the half. Then, in the 78th minute freshman Liam Brandon would tack on another goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Brandon's goal was unassisted as the forward dribbled around a pair of defenders and snuck the goal past Rams' keeper Luke Brooks. The goal was the first of the year and the first of Brandon's career as well.

Columbia International had an 11-9 advantage on shots and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Warrior keeper Ruben Rodriguez tallied seven saves in goal.

The Warriors resume conference play on Saturday, Oct. 17 against Belmont Abbey. The women kick off the double header at 3 p.m. with the men's matchup following around 5 p.m.
