SWU Men's Soccer Rolls Over Lions

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's soccer picked up their second straight victory over an NCCAA opponent on Wednesday defeating Laurel University 6-0 at Childs Field.

Similarly to Saturday's 6-0 over Bob Jones the Warriors put up two goals in the first half followed by four more in the second half. Again it was Alejandro Sanchez who netted the game's first goal, dribbling away from a defender and putting the ball in the net in the 19th minute.  Just eight seconds later it was Noel Fischer notching his first of two goals on the day, scoring after his initial shot was saved.

The Warriors (2-1) kept the Lions (0-4) defense busy all night long with 45 shots including putting 16 on goal.  Jose Domingues made 10 saves including several at close range or the score might have been a lot worse.

Fischer added his second goal of the night and second of the season in the 58th minute followed by Jonathan Ruiz' second of the year.  Joao Oliveira assisted on both of those goals and then on Alex Martinez' first of the season in the 75th minute that capped the scoring.  Joey Capone added his third in two games as Bruno Liozzi and Martinez picked up assists.

Sanchez and Capone continue to lead the team in goals with three each on the season while Liozzi and Oliveira are tied for the team lead with three assists each.

The Warriors had several additional chances to add additional goals to the register but either hit the cross bar, post or missed just wide.

Laurel was able to get off just two shots in the match with the second one just missing high off a free kick from 25 yards out.  The Warriors took 45 shots in the contest, more than the combined efforts of their first two matches.

SWU continues at home on Friday as they host former SSAC opponent Spring Hill at 7 p.m.
