Warhawks Snap Warriors Winning Streak at Three

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After overcoming a big second half deficit against Auburn-Montgomery at home on Monday, the Southern Wesleyan women's basketball team was unable to come up with the same formula on Saturday, falling 63-57 to AUM.

The Warriors (11-14, 7-10 SSAC) fell behind big early, trailing 43-25 at halftime.  The Warhawks (13-12, 8-9 SSAC) reached 21 in the first half as AUM shot .517 in the first frame.  The Warriors shot only .346 before halftime.

SWU was able to get back into the game in the second half as AUM was held to just .267 shooting from the floor as the Warriors shot .423 in the second half but it was just not enough to ever overcome the large deficit.

The Warriors cut the gap to just one with 2:21 to play at 58-57 on a bucket by Brooke Strickland in the paint.  After a pair of offensive rebounds AUM scored to go back up by three.  A turnover and a missed front end of the one-and-one on the next two possessions allowed the Warhawks to come back down and score again to push the lead out to six with just 16 seconds left.

"Today was a disappointing loss," head coach John Davis said afterwards.  "We went away from our game plan in the first half and AUM capitalized.  We did not come out and play at a high level to start either.  In the second half we went back to executing and it showed in our comeback, we just had too much to overcome."

Chelsie Waters led all players with 18 points and Christiana Perkins recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Brooke Strickland was also in double figures with 11 points.  Kaylan Withrow led AUM with 15 points.

The Warriors will continue their three-game road swing on Tuesday, traveling to Brewton-Parker for a 6 p.m. contest.
