Box Score

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – For the third time this season overtime proved to be unkind to Southern Wesleyan men's soccer as the Warriors were knocked off in the NCCAA South Region title game by Palm Beach Atlantic 2-1 on Saturday.

The Warriors (13-7) will have to await the NCCAA at-large bid selections to see if they will play on or if this was their final game of the season.

Bruno Pietrobelli headed in the game winner off a free kick with just seconds remaining in the first overtime period. The Sailfish grabbed an early lead in the 9th minute of the match as Steven Fiema got behind the defense and beat keeper Ruben Rodriguez.

The Warriors tied the game at 1-1 late in the first half as Ivan Malagon scored his fifth of the season from the top of the box.  Joao Oliveira picked up his sixth assist on the season.

SWU had to play a man down from the 74th minute on after Nestor Gonzalez was shown his second yellow card of the match.  That was one of eight cards handed out in the match, six of which went against the Warriors. There were 35 fouls whistled overall in the match with the Warriors tagged with 22 of them.

Palm Beach Atlantic led the offensive attack in the first half, taking 10 shots to just five for the Warriors. SWU came back to even the overall edge with nine shots to seven in the second half. Each team had just one in the overtime period with the Sailfish scoring on their one attempt.

Rodriguez made three saves for the Warriors while Steeven Raymont also stopped three balls on the day for PBA.

As soon as the NCCAA releases their nine-team field for the NCCAA tournament we'll bring you the details on if the Warriors will be heading to Florida as an at-large selection.
