Sanchez's late goal lifts Warriors past Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – Southern Wesleyan men's soccer won their second straight on Wednesday night, defeating Milligan College 2-1 in nonconference action.

The Warriors (6-3) won their second straight after losing two straight. Previously they won four in a row before their two-game slide.

Alejandro Sanchez provided the game-winner in the 81st minute after Milligan had notched the equalizer in the 78th minute.  Sanchez scored for the fifth time this season and is the team leader.  He also assisted on the game's first goal, his third assist of the season.  Bruno Liozzi was the instigator in Sanchez's goal, picking up his fourth assist of the year, tying teammate Joao Oliveira for the team lead.

Noel Fischer came off the bench to record the first goal in the 38th minute, his third of the season, tying him for second on the team.  For Fischer it was his first goal since scoring two against Laurel back on Sept. 10.  Sanchez found the back of the net for the first time since the Columbia International match, ending a three-game drought.

The Warriors took 14 shots in the game, highlighted by three from Liozzi, Fischer and Joey Capone.  Milligan managed just seven shots and just two on goal.  Tapiwa Kaseke scored for the Buffaloes in the 78th minute.  Ruben Rodriguez made one save in goal for the Warriors as Dan Ball stopped four shots for Milligan.

SWU jumps back into conference play this weekend by travelling up the road to Belmont Abbey for a 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon start.  The Warriors four-game road trip will end next Wednesday at Toccoa Falls before returning home on Oct. 11.
