Warriors Into Friday's Semis

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Warriors are headed to the semifinals of the NCCAA National Tournament after defeating Houghton College 2-1 on Tuesday.

Southern Wesleyan (14-6-2) claims the top spot in Pool C after defeating third-seeded Campbellsville 2-1 on Monday and fourth-seeded Houghton 2-1 on Tuesday.  The Warriors' six points is the highest in the group with Campbellsville and Houghton set to face each other on Wednesday to close out pool play action.

The Warriors got a goal from Bruno Liozzi for the second straight night, the second night he found the back of the net early on.  On Monday it was a goal in the 9th minute to get the scoring started and on Tuesday against Houghton it was in the 21st minute off a pass from Douglas Andrade.

The eventual game-winner came off the foot of Joey Capone in the 54th minute.  Capone couldn't find a better time to notch his first career goal, a goal that sent the Warriors to the NCCAA semifinals.  Houghton scored just before the final horn to keep the Warriors from getting the shutout.

In the game both teams took nine shots with Ruben Rodriguez making five saves in goal for the Warriors.  Jacob Dunnett made three for Houghton.

The top team from each group advances to the semifinals along with a wild card team – the second place team with the most points – which will be played on Friday.  The final three teams will be determined after Wednesday's action to close out pool play.  Those four teams will be reseeded for the knockout stage.  The championship match will be held on Saturday.
