THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan men's golf followed up a win last week with another solid 36-hole effort, finishing in a tie for third at the Thomas University Invitational on Tuesday.
The Warriors shot a six-over 582 for the tournament, just three shots off the pace set by Florida A&M. SWU and Florida A&M were tied, along with Webber International, after the first day with a score of 290 but while FAMU improved from their day one score down to 289, the Warriors shot a 292. Webber International finished seventh in the 13 team field after a second day 300. Coastal Georgia placed second with a 580 (292-288) including the best round of any team on either day on Tuesday.
Zach Moore and Matthew Moore led the Warriors, finishing tied for fifth with three other players with a 142 (-2). Zach was consistent, carding a one-under 71 on both days while Matthew was two-under on Monday with a 70 before shooting par on Tuesday. Kyle Martin from Southeastern University won the tournament with a 138 (-6) after shooting 66 on Tuesday.
David Brown finished 30th for the Warriors after a 150 (75-75) and Tyler Cozad placed 36th with a 151 (74-77). Zachary Casto shot a 153 (79-74) and placed 42nd.
FAMU won the team event despite not having a golfer in the top-10 individually. Chase Burkhalter had the best score for the team with a 144 (73-71) and placed 11th.
The Warriors will have a week off during fall break and will be back in action on October 14-15 to host the Warrior Invitational.
