Anderson, SC – The Warriors took several top ten finishes at the Electric City Invitational this weekend.
How It Happened
Track Results
100m: In the preliminaries of the 100 meters, Makayla Wilson led the team by taking 7th with a time of 12.29 to qualify for the finals. Cianna Laginestra took 16th in the preliminaries with a time of 12.97. In the finals of the 100 meters, Wilson took seventh with a time of 12.20.
100mh: Senior TraVon Lay took 10th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.79.
200m: The Warriors were led by Cianna Laginestra in the 200 meters as she took 18th with a time of 27.81. Laginestra was followed by Elena Juarez who took 24th with a time of 29.43.
400m: In the 400 meters, Ava LaBrant took 15th with a time of 1:05.49.
800m: Southern Wesleyan was led by Kristi Gallagher in the 800 meters as she took 23rd with a time of 2:28.22. Macey Morgan and Ava LaBrant were the next two Warriors to finish. Morgan took 39th with a time of 2:35.50 and LaBrant took 40th with a time of 2:35.54. Janey Dixon finished in 59th with a time of 2:46.45. Behind Dixon, Freda Ruiz finished in 60th with a time of 2:48.53 and Nicole Feagan took 73rd place with a time of 3:15.07.
Mile: Merritt Smith led the Warriors in the mile as she took 5th with a time of 5:24.28. Behind Smith, Kristi Gallagher took 15th with a time of 5:39.47 and Macey Morgan took 17th with a time of 5:41.85. Taking 31st in the mile was Janey Dixon who finished in 6:13.09. Freda Ruiz wrapped up the field in the mile with a time of 6:16.28 to take 34th.
5000m: In the 5000 meters, Divinity Ervin took seventh with a time of 21:15.29.
4x100 Meter Relay: The Warriors team of TraVon Lay, Kyla Johnson, Cianna Laginstra and Makayla Wilson took fourth as they finished in 49.02.
Field Results
Discus: Layla-Grey Bennett took 11th in the discus after her throw of 33.22 meters. Bennett was followed by Alexandria Luther who took 14th with a throw of 31.24 meters.
Hammer: Alexandria Luther took seventh in the hammer with a throw of 40.31 meters.
Long Jump: In the long jump, Makayla Wilson took fourth after jumping 5.26 meters. Wilson was followed by Elena Juarez who took 18th with a jump of 4.14 meters.
Pole Vault: Southern Wesleyan was led by Ava LaBrant in the pole vault after she cleared a height of 3.10 meters.
Shot Put: Alexandria Luther took 12th in the shot put after a throw of 10.31 meters.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will compete in Cleveland, TN on April 11-12 in the Lee Fast Break Invite. They will then compete in the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championship on April 25-26. The Warriors will compete in the Lee Last Chance meet on May 10.
