Hickory, NC – Southern Wesleyan took several top finishes and both Merritt Smith and Ella Harned broke school records during the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational.

Track Results
100m | Makayla Wilson finished in 14th with a time of 12.50. Wilson was followed by Cianna Laginestra in 25th with a time of 12.94.
200m | In the 200 meters, Cianna Laginestra took 32nd with a time of 27.96.
400m | Lexie Ransom took 22nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:11.19.
800m | The Warriors were led by senior Kristi Gallagher in the 800 meters as she took 19th with a time of 2:34.74. Claire Walker was the next Warrior to finish as she took 24th with a time of 2:37.48. Finishing in 29th was freshman Kylie Gallagher with a time of 2:47.04.
1500m | In the 1500 meters, Ellie Adams finished in 8th place with a time of 4:59.85. Elise Foster took 12th with a time of 5:11.29. The Warriors next finisher in the race was Kristi Gallagher with a time of 5:40.64 to take 22nd. Kylie Gallagher was the Warriors final finisher as she took 34 with a time of 6:06.05.
5000m | Merritt Smith broke the school record in the 5000 meters as she finished in 18:14.61 to take first place. Smith was followed by Freda Ruiz who took seventh with a time of 19:43.81. Anna Maddalena took ninth with a time of 20:09.73.
Heptathlon
Ella Harned finished with 3645 points in the heptathlon to break the school record. She took ninth in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.49. In the high jump, she took sixth with a jump of 1.46 meters. She then took sixth in the shot put with her throw of 9.28 meters. Harned finished the 200 meters in 10th with a time of 29.42. She then jumped a distance of 4.75 meters in the long jump to take ninth. Her throw of 25.21 meters allowed her to take sixth in the javelin. She wrapped up the heptathlon with a time of 2:34.01 in the 800 meter run to take fifth.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next compete in the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championship on April 23-25. They will then travel to Lynchburg, VA on May 6 to compete in the Twilight Invitational and then to Cleveland, TN on May 10 to compete in the Lee Last Chance.
