– Nationally ranked Francis Marion University enters the 2025 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship as the top seed for the second time in as many. The championship starts on Thursday, April 24 with four play-in contests at Tyger River Park in Duncan, S.C.
Francis Marion, the east division champion is currently ranked second in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll with an overall record of 43-3, going 23-1 in Conference Carolinas contests. They await the winner of eighth seed North Greenville University and ninth seed, southwest division runner-up, Young Harris College. North Greenville posted an overall record of 30-18, going 14-10 in league games while Young Harris owns a 22-22 overall record and 13-11 mark in league games.
UNC Pembroke is the second seed, finishing runner-up in the east division. The Braves went 17-7 in Conference Carolinas games and are 26-23 overall. They will face the winner of seventh seed and northwest division champion King University and 10th seed Emmanuel University. The Tornado finished with an overall record of 28-22, going 15-9 in conference games while Emmanuel is 19-26 overall and 12-12 in conference contests.
Barton College is the third seed with a league mark of 11-13, going 25-21 overall. The Bulldogs await the winner of sixth seed and southwest division champion Southern Wesleyan University and 11th seed Converse University. The Warriors are 29-13 overall and posted a 16-8 mark in league games while Converse is 19-29 overall and 11-13 in league games.
Southern Wesleyan posted their best season in the Division II area and were in the top 25 in the NCAA DII in several offensive categories at the end of the regular season. The Warriors have hit 58 home runs as a team this year. Sophomore third baseman,
Amberly Way, also is currently ranked in the top 10 in home runs hit in the season with 17. Behind her,
Avery Mercer, the Warriors first baseman from Georgia, has 12 home runs. The Warriors will also be looking to their strong pitching rotation of
Emily Collins,
Chloe Smith and
Olivia Haag who have combined for 160 strikeouts this season.
The University of Mount Olive went 13-11 in Conference Carolinas games and 23-25 overall to earn the fourth seed. The Trojans will take on the winner of fifth seed Chowan University and 12th seed Shorter University. Chowan owns an overall record of 19-26 overall and 10-14 mark in league play while Shorter is 13-30 overall and 10-14 in Conference Carolinas contests.
The tournament opens with the four play-in games on Thursday. The first two contests start at 11:00 a.m. with the next two starting at 1:30 p.m. The first round then follows with two games at 4:00 p.m. and two more at 6:30 p.m.
The quarterfinals of the championship bracket will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday with elimination games at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday, will feature the winners' bracket semifinal at 12:00 p.m., an elimination game at 2:00 p.m. and another elimination game at 4:00 p.m. for the right to advance to the final in the double-elimination tournament The championship final is slated for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday with the "if-necessary" game at 2:00 p.m.
The bracket for the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship was determined through the use of KPI, but due to Conference Carolinas tiebreaking procedures when a comparison of KPI values is within .002.
