Montreat, NC – Southern Wesleyan took several top place finishes at the Montreat College Open on Friday and Saturday.
How It Happened
Track Results
100m: Leading the whole field in the 100 meters, Makayla Wilson took first place with a time of 12.78. Wilson was followed by TraVon Lay and Cianna Laginestra. Lay finished in fifth place with a time of 12.95 and Laginestra took eighth with a time of 13.26. Kyla Johnson wrapped up the field for the Warriors as she took 10th with a time of 13.66.
100mh: TraVon Lay claimed first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.23.
200m: The Warriors were led by Makayla Wilson in the 200 meters. Wilson took first place after she finished with a time of 26.40. She was followed by sophomore Cianna Laginestra who took eighth with a time of 28.33.
400mh: In the 400 meter hurdles, TraVon Lay took second with a time of 1:10.10.
800m: Kristi Gallagher led the Warriors in the 800 meters as she took fourth with a time of 2:30.77. Gallagher was followed by senior Janey Dixon who took 15th with a time of 2:47.12. Behind her were Freda Ruiz and Nicole Feagan. Ruiz finished in 17th with a time of 2:50.71 and Feagan took 22nd with a time of 3:10.87.
1500m: In the 1500m, Merritt Smith took sixth with a time of 5:07.79. Just seconds behind her, Kristi Gallagher took 10th with a time of 5:18.88. Freda Ruiz and Susie Stutz were the next two Warriors to finish. Ruiz finished in 17th with a time of 5:53.74 and Stutz took 19th with a time of 6:22.03.
5000m: The Warriors were led by Macey Morgan in the 5000 meters. Morgan finished in eighth place with a time of 19:59.86. She was followed by Divinity Ervin who took 13th with a time of 20:48.66.
Mixed 4x400 Meter Relay: Southern Wesleyan competed for the first time ever in the mixed 4x400 meter relay on Saturday. The Warriors' team of Aziah Gaskin, Kyla Johnson, Solomon Pitts and TraVon Lay took third place with a time of 4:02.22.
4x800 Meter Relay: The Warriors team of Ava LaBrant, Macey Morgan, Merritt Smith and Kristi Gallagher took fourth place with a time of 10:34.04.
Field Results
Discus: Sophomore Layla-Grey Bennett took fifth place in the discus after she threw a distance of 35.05m.
Hammer: In the hammer throw, Alexandria Luther finished in first with a throw of 38.63m.
Javelin: Layla-Grey Bennett took second in the javelin with a throw of 31.69 meters.
Long Jump: The Warriors were led by Makayla Wilson in the long jump after she jumped a distance of 5.22 meters to allow her to finish in second place.
Pole Vault: Senior Ava LaBrant took second place in the pole vault after she cleared a height of 3.05 meters.
Shot Put: In the shot put, Alexandria Luther finished in seventh with a throw of 9.64 meters.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will host their second home meet of the outdoor season on March 28-29 as they welcome several teams to Central, SC for the Gotta Run Invite. They will then travel to Anderson, SC to compete in the Electric City Invitational on April 4-5. The Warriors will wrap up the regular season on April 11-12 in Cleveland, TN at the Lee Fast Break.
