Clemson, SC – Southern Wesleyan put up several top showings and Merritt Smith broke the school record in the 3000 meters in the Warriors' first Indoor Track & Field meet of the year at the Clemson Opener.
How It Happened
Track Events
60m: The Warriors were led by senior Makayla Wilson in the 60 meters. Wilson took 26th with a time of 7.86. She was followed by Cianna Laginestra and Shania Hatton. Laginestra took 31st with a time of 8.31 and Hatton finished in 32nd with a time of 8.42.
200m: Makayla Wilson took 35th in the 200 meters with a time of 26.51. Cianna Laginestra was the next Warrior to finish as she took 37th with a time of 27.57. Wrapping up the field for the Warriors was Shania Hatton who took 38th with a time of 28.74.
400m: In the 400 meters, Ella Harned led the Warriors as she took 21st with a time of 1:06.85. Harned was followed by Kristi Gallagher who took 22nd with a time of 1:09.95.
600m: Anna Maddalena finished in seventh place in the women's 600 meters on Friday morning. She finished with a time of 1:52.84.
800m: Claire Walker took third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.77
1000m: Senior Kristi Gallagher led the Warriors in the 1000 meters. Gallagher took 10th with a time of 3:33.66. She was followed by freshmen Anna Maddalena and Kylie Gallagher. Maddalena took 11th with a time of 3:40.65 while Gallagher took 12th with a time of 3:59.02.
3000m: Merritt Smith broke the school record in the 3000 meters as she took 11th with a time of 10:44.36.
Mile: In the mile, freshman Elise Foster led the Warriors as she took third place with a time of 5:36.68. Foster was followed by Freda Ruiz in sixth with a time of 5:46.87.
Field Events
Shot Put: Alexandria Luther led the Warriors in the shot put on Friday. Luther's throw of 9.71 meters allowed her to finish in 11th place. She was followed by freshman Ella Harned who took 13th with a throw of 8.82 meters.
Weight Throw: In the weight throw, Alexandria Luther took 13th as she threw 11.05 meters.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will take a break for the Christmas holidays before returning to the track on January 10 as they travel to Columbia, SC to take part in the South Carolina Opener. They will then travel to Winston-Salem, NC on January 17 to compete in the JDL College Team Challenge.
