Charlotte, NC – Southern Wesleyan took seventh as a team in the Royals XC Challenge's Blue Race on Friday afternoon. Merritt Smith led the team during the race as she broke the school record.

How It Happened
Merritt Smith led the Warriors in the Royals XC Challenge on Friday afternoon. Her time of 19:00.56 not only secured her a fourth place finish in the race, but also allowed her to break a school record in the 5K that had been held by Erica Segars since 2010. The Warriors' next finisher in the race was freshman Elise Foster who took 21st place with a time of 20:09.41. Kristi Gallagher finished with a time of 21:08.45 to take 45th.
The next Warrior to finish in the race was Freda Ruiz. Ruiz took 53rd place in the Royals XC Challenge with a time of 21:19.10. Just a couple seconds behind Ruiz, Anna Maddalena finished in 58th place with a time of 21:31.64. Finishing in 91st place was freshman Ella Harned who held a time of 22:52.76.
What's Next
The Warriors will next compete in the Conference Carolinas Championship on October 24. They will then compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional on November 8.
