Warriors Fall in Final Game of Series Against Tritons

St. Petersburg, FL – Southern Wesleyan dropped the final game of the series against the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday afternoon in a 13-3 final score.

The Warriors totaled seven hits in the final game of the series with both Marty Grisso and TJ Highsmith picking up two hits.  Both Highsmith and Cam Mitchem had doubles.  Jason Culley led the team with two of the three RBIs.  Southern Wesleyan walked seven times and Travis Hammond stole a base.

Nick Vollmert started on the mound and pitched 2.2 innings while striking out four batters.  Six pitchers came in to pitch in relief.  Ash Faulk, Jaylen Morgan, and Garrett Swink all had solo strikeouts in the game.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan took the first run of the game in the top of the first inning.  With one out, Marty Grisso hit a single to left field.  Cam Mitchem doubled to left center field to drive Grisso in and put the Warriors on top 1-0.

Eckerd countered in the bottom of the third inning.  Doubles by Brazer, White and Lisle allowed the Tritons to take an 8-1 run advantage.

The Tritons pushed ahead with runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Warriors attacked the plate once again.  TJ Highsmith led off the inning with a single to second base and then advanced to second when Jarrett Whitley walked.  With two outs, Travis Hammond was hit by a pitch to load up the bases.  Jason Culley then hit a deep single to left field to bring Highsmith and Whitley in to score to put the Warriors behind the Tritons 10-3.

Eckerd scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Tritons a 13-3 run victory over the Warriors.

 

 

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will take on the Shorter Hawks in Rome, GA on April 2.  The Warriors will travel to Mount Olive, NC on April 5-6 as they resume Conference Carolinas action against the University of Mount Olive Trojans.  They will return home on April 10 to host the Lander Bearcats.
