Columbia, SC – Southern Wesleyan hit top marks in the John Hunter Classic hosted by Columbia International on Saturday.
How It Happened
Track Events
200m: Jaden Warner finished the 200 meters in 12th with a time of 22.54. Warner was followed by Dominic Gonzalez and Aziah Gaskin. Gonzalez finished with a time of 23.32 to take 21st and Gaskin was behind him with a time of 23.35 to take 23rd.
100m: In the 100 meters, Aziah Gaskin finished in 17th with a time of 11.53 and Dominic Gonzalez finished in 18th with a time of 11.57.
1500m: Sophomore Grady Clark finished the 1500m in eighth place with a time of 4:11.17. Grayson Gillespie and Drew Jones were the next two Warriors to finish. Gillespie took 17th with a time of 4:20.55 and Jones took 18th with a time of 4:21.07. Landon Mayfield finished the race with a time of 4:34.75 to take 26 and JT Locke took 29th with a time of 4:37.07. Taking 33rd with a time of 4:42.03 was Josue Avendano.
800m: Ethan Marchman led the Warriors in the 800 meters as he took second with a time of 1:56.52. Behind Marchman, Grady Clark took fifth and Drew Jones claimed sixth. Clark finished with a time of 1:59.08 while Jones finished with a time of 2:00.11. Grayson Gillespie finished in 13th with a time of 2:07.07 and Landon Mayfield finished in 16th with a time of 2:09.20. Josue Avendano wrapped up the field for the Warriors as he took 18th with a time of 2:09.80.
400m: Jaden Warner led the Warriors in the 400 meters as he took fifth place with a time of 50.56. Warner was followed by Aziah Gaskin. Gaskin's time of 51.46 secured him a ninth place finish slot.
400mh: In the 400 meter hurdles, Elijah Powell took sixth place with a time of 1:05.02.
Field Events
Javelin: Freshman Braden Shoemaker finished in second place in the javelin as he threw a distance of 45.66m. He was followed by fellow freshman Mason Griffiths in sixth with a throw of 30.28m.
Discus: Mason Griffiths led the Warriors in the discus as he threw a distance of 38.45m to put him in 6t place. He was followed by Braden Shoemaker in 11th with a throw of 27.26m.
Long Jump: Sam Woods took fifth with a jump of 6.04m.
Triple Jump: In the triple jump, Sam Woods finished second with a jump of 11.36m.
Pole Vault: Senior Evan Motes tied for first place in the pole vault as he and unattached vaulter Blake Rimmer each cleared heights of 4.40m.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Montreat, NC on March 22-23 to compete at the Montreat Invitational. They will then return home on March 29 as they host the Gotta Run Invite at the Joe R Gilbert Track and Field Complex in Central, SC. The Warriors will take part in the Electric City Invite on April 12-13.
