School Records and All-Conference Finishes Lead Warriors to Fifth Place Team Finish at Conference Championship

Winston-Salem, NC – Southern Wesleyan finished in fifth place at Conference Carolinas' Indoor Track and Field Championship over the weekend.  The Warriors broke three school records in the process.

How It Happened

Track Results

60 Meters: In the preliminaries of the 60 meters, Aiah Gaskin led the Warriors with a time of 7.31.  Gaskin was followed by Solomon Pitts who finished with a time of 7.40 to take 26th.

200 Meters: Southern Wesleyan was led by Jaden Warner in the preliminaries of the 200 meters.  Warner finished in 21st with a time of 23.46.  Behind Warner were Aziah Gaskin and Dominic Gonzalez.  Gaskin took 25th with a time of 24.00 and Gonzalez took 29th with a time of 24.65.

400 Meters: Jaden Warner finished in 20th with a time of 53.34 and Dominic Gonzalez took 22nd with a time of 55.88 in the preliminaries of the 400 meters.

800 Meters. In the 800 meters, Ethan Marchman finished just shy of all-conference honors as he finished in fourth place with a time of 1:58.38.  Teammates Grady Clark and Drew Jones were the next two Warriors to finish.  Clark took 7th with a time of 1:59.46 and Jones took 8th with a time of 2:00.19.

Mile: Drew Jones broke the school record in the mile as he finished in 5th place with a time of 4:20.45.  Grady Clark finished in 6th place with a time of 4:20.82.

3000 Meters: The Warriors were led by Ronan O'Neill in the men's 3000 meters.  O'Neill finished in third place with a time of 8:35.83 to claim All-Conference Third Team honors.  He was followed by Thomas Macagg in 18th with a time of 9:07.45.

5000 Meters: In the 5000 meters, Ronan O'Neill led the whole field as his time of 14:49.30 allowed him to claim first place and receive All-Conference First Team honors.  His time in the 5000 meters also allowed him to set a new school record.  Thomas Macagg was the next Warrior to finish as his time of 15:55.32 allowed him to finish in 15th.  He was followed by Malcolm Kibiwot and Landon Mayfield.  Kibiwot took 21st with a time of 16:28.92 and Mayfield finished in 24th with a time of 17:09.47.

4x400 Meter Relay: The Warriors team of Jaden Warner, Drew Jones, Grady Clark and Ethan Marchman finished in sixth place in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:26.81.

Distance Medley Relay: Southern Wesleyan's team of Jaden Warner, Grady Clark, Ethan Marchman and Drew Jones not only led the who field but also broke both the school and conference meet records in the distance medley relay.  Their time of 10:16.13 allowed them to finish in first place.

 

 

Field Results

Long Jump: In the long jump, Sam Woods took 13th with distance of 6.31 meters.  Woods was followed by Valante Walker in 20th with a time of 5.85 meters.

Pole Vault: Evan Motes led the Warriors in the pole vault as he vaulted a height of 4.16 meters.

Shot Put: Mason Griffiths took 21st in the shot put as he threw a distance of 9.20 meters.

Triple Jump: The Warriors were led by Valante Walker in the triple jump.  Walker took 12th with a jump of 12.91m.  He was followed by Sam Woods with a throw of 11.83m to take 17th place.

Weight Throw: In the weight throw, Mason Griffiths threw a distance of 9.37 meters to put him in 19th place.

 

 

 

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will kick off the Outdoor Track and Field season on March 2 as they host the Susan Rouse Invitational.  They will then travel to Columbia, SC to take part in the John Hunter Classic.
