New Orleans, LA – All-Region honorees for the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.  A complete list of honorees can be found here.

Southern Wesleyan Track and Field was honored as 10 individuals walked away with All-Region honors between both the men's and women's Outdoor Track and Field programs.

The Warriors had three representatives on the men's side as Calvin Fernandez, Luke Gordy and Evan Motes each received All-Region honors.

Calvin Fernandez set a school record in the javelin this season as he threw a distance of 62.57 meters at the First Chance and Multi at the University of Mount Olive last week.  Fernandez's throw at the meet went on to rank him 24^th in the nation in the javelin.  Luke Gordy was not too far behind Fernandez as he threw the javelin a distance of 58.18m at the Final Qualifier hosted by the University of Mount Olive.

Evan Motes was the final representative on the All-Region team on the men's side.  Motes earned a slot on the All-Region team in Pole Vaulting after he vaulted a height of 4.45 meters at the Electric City Invitational earlier this spring.

Southern Wesleyan had seven women receive slots on the All-Region team with two individual receiving multiple All-Region accolades.

The Warriors had both relay teams receive recognition.  The 4x100 Meter Relay team of Jada Pittman, Michele Beugre, Deborah Marlow and Mycherie Onwuzuruike were recognized as the nineteenth fastest team in the nation, just missing the ability to compete at the national championship.  Their time of 46.02 at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships allowed them to take a first place finish.  Southern Wesleyan's 4x400 Meter Relay team of Kyla Johnson, Cierra Wright, Mycherie Onwuzuruike, and Michele Beugre also were recognized on the regional stage as their time of 3:49.06 at the Weems Baskin Relays in Columbia, SC earned them honors.

The Women's Track and Field team had three individuals also receive All-Region recognition in Mycherie Onwuzuruike, Michele Beugre and Madison Boyd.  Both Onwuzuruike and Beugre received recognition in multiple categories.

Mycherie Onwuzuruike received the All-Region accolades in three individual events alongside her relay team recognitions.  In the 100 Meters, Onwuzuruike set a new school record as she ran the distance in 11.66 at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships.  She continued her impressive final season with the Warriors as she finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 11.77m at the Conference Carolinas Championship, setting a school record in the process.  In the long jump, Onwuzruike set a new school record during the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne on April 14-16.  Her jump of 6.16 meters not only allowed her to claim first in the event, but ranked her sixth in the nation in the long jump.

Along with receiving recognition as a member of both relay teams, Beugre was awarded spots on the All-Region 200 Meter and 400 Meter squads.  Beugre ran the 200 meters in 24.15 at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier, and ran the 400 meters in 55.51 at the Mount Olive First Chance Meet.

The final individual to receive All-Region recognition on the women's side was freshman Madison Boyd.  Boyd threw a distance of 51.17 meters in the hammer throw at the Conference Carolinas Championship at the end of April.  Her throw not only allowed her to claim second at the meet, but set a new school record.
