Coming into the National Championship as the 18
th seed,
Mycherie Onwuzuruike competed in the first flight. In her second jump of the day, Onwuzuriuke jumped a distance of 6.09 meters. Her jump not only broke the previous school record of 5.91 meters that she had previous jumped at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship on February 20, but it also set a new Conference Carolinas record.
At the end of the first flight, Onwuzuruike was in first place. However, jumps by Marie-Jeanne Ourega of Academy of Art, Makayla Jackson of Minnesota State and Nicole Warwick of Azusa Pacific allowed them to pass Onwuzuruike. Onwuzuruike was able to stay within the top five as her jump of 6.09 meters allowed her to finish in fourth place.
Her fourth place finish allowed her to be not only the first Indoor All-American in school history since the transition to NCAA Division II, but also the first ever Field Event All-American since the transition.
