Clemson, SC – The Warriors set one school record and had several top finishes at the Clemson Opener to open up the 2023-24 season.

Track Events
60 Meters; Aziah Gaskin recorded a personal best in the 60 meters as he finished in 31st with a time of 7.27. He was followed by freshman Dominic Gonzalez who took 35th with a time of 7.48.
200 Meters: Jaden Warner finished in 28th with a time of 22.88 in the 200 meters. Warner was followed by Dominic Gonzalez in 34th with a time of 23.73 and Aziah Gaskin in 35th with a time of 23.77. Elijah Powell took 37th with a time of 24.96.
400 Meters: In the 400 meters on Friday, the Warriors were led by freshman Nate Hill. Hill finished in ninth with a time of 50.13. Jaden Warner was the next to finish as he took 15th with a time of 50.77. Right on his heels, Ethan Marchman finished with a time of 50.80 to put him in 16th place. Freshmen Dominic Gonzalez and Elijah Powell wrapped up the field for the Warriors. Gonzalez finished in 21st with a time of 54.05 and Powell took 22nd with a time of 56.41.
600 Meters: Ethan Marchman took 10th in the men's 600 meters as he finished with a time of 1:23.17.
Mile: Sophomore Ronan O'Neill finished in second in the mile as he crossed the finish line with a time of 4:33.16.
1000 Meters: Grady Clark set the first school record of the 2023-24 season as he broke the record for 1000 meters on Friday afternoon. Clark ran a time of 2:33.26 to finish in 13th place.
3000 Meters: Sophomore Drew Jones led the Warriors in the 3000 meters as he took fifth place with a time of 9:00.36. Grayson Gillespie and Landon Mayfield were the next two Warriors to finish. Gillespie finished ninth with a time of 9:26.01 and Mayfield claimed tenth with a time of 9:46.45.
4x400 Meter Relay: The Warriors 4x400 meter relay team of Nate Hill, Ethan Marchman, Grady Clark and Jaden Warner took fifth with a time of 3:21.20.
Field Events
Pole Vault: Senior Evan Motes finished in 8th with a height of 4.10 meters.
High Jump: Valante Walker and Sam Woods competed in the high jump for the Warriors. Both finished in a tie for 13th place after clearing distances of 1.70 meters.
Shot Put: In his first collegiate match, freshman Mason Griffiths finished in 20th in the shot put with a throw of 9.14 meters.
Long Jump: The Warriors were led by Sam Woods in the long jump on Friday as he jumped a distance of 6.18 meters in his second jump of the day to put him in 22nd place. Behind him, Valante Walker finished in 28th after jumping a distance of 5.63 meters.
Weight Throw: Mason Griffiths took 18th in the weight throw with a throw of 8.14 meters.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will enter winter break and return to the track on January 13 as they travel to Columbia, SC to take part in the Gamecock Opener. They will then travel to Lexington, VA to take part in the VMI Collegiate Challenge on January 20th.
