Gordon Named Freshman of the Year, Receives All-Conference Honors

Greenville, SC – Conference Carolinas announced the 2022 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team and Major Award Winners on Tuesday afternoon.  Freshman Karla Gordon was among those honored as she was not only named to the All-Conference Second Team, but was named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year.

Karla Gordon, a native of Lexington, South Carolina, becomes the second Warrior in Women's Soccer history to receive a major award in Conference Carolinas.  The previous Warrior to receive a major award in Conference Carolinas was Ashley Romanowski who was named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.

Gordon led the Warriors throughout the 2022 season as she recorded a 51.2% shot on goal percentage which made her a threat on the attack.  She recorded seven goals and one assist during her freshman campaign.  Her career first goal with the Warriors came on August 27 in the 2-0 victory over the Brevard Tornadoes.  Gordon continued to impress as she scored in six Conference Carolinas match-ups, including a five goal game streak in September.  She had two game winning goals for the Warriors.

In Conference Carolinas statistics, Karla Gordon is ranked seventh in goals per game (0.47) and ninth in points per game (1.00).  She continued to be in the top ten in shot accuracy, shots per game and shots on goal per game.  Gordon is in the top 150 in NCAA Division II Women's Soccer in multiple categories including: goals per game, points per game, shot accuracy, shots per game, shots on goal per game, and total goals.

"We are so excited and happy to see Karla receive such great recognition and a much deserved Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year award," said Head Coach Al Meneses.  "Her hard work and perseverance throughout the season are paying off.  Karla had great impact on our program in 2022 and she is definitely a player that will help guide our team into higher levels of competitiveness and success in the years to come.  Her humble nature, high work ethic and determination, make her a truly special student athlete.  Congratulations to Karla, our team and the entire Gordon family!"
