Box Score Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped a close game to the Davis & Elkins Senators in a 15-12 final score.
The Warriors took 26 shots and 23 shots on goal in the loss to the Senators on Saturday. Tabitha Beecher took 11 shots and nine shots on goal. She was followed by Amy Pfefferkorn with five shots on goal. Beecher led the team with five goals. Pfefferkorn followed with three and Betsy Bovee recorded two goals. Kelsey Hawkins and Tricia Sands each had solo goals. Five Warriors collected assists during the game. Southern Wesleyan had 19 ground balls with goalkeeper Kaeleigh McDaniel leading the team with nine. Jairy Sandoval recorded 10 of the 16 draw controls. McDaniel recorded 14 saves during the game.

How It Happened
Davis & Elkins challenged the Warriors early as Angelina Horan scored, but Southern Wesleyan maintained the pressure with shots on goal by Amy Pfefferkorn and Jocelyn Cosgrove, but Surelys Baez saved the ball from reaching the back of the cage. The Senators continued to pressure, scoring a second goal on a free position goal. Southern Wesleyan maintained the pressure as Kelsey Hawkins passed the ball up to Tabitha Beecher who put the ball into the cage to put the Warriors down one goal. The Senators extended their lead, however goals by Tabitha Beecher and Betsy Bovee allowed the Warriors to tie the game 3-3. Southern Wesleyan would not let up the pressure as fouls in the eight meter allowed Beecher and Pfefferkorn to score back-to-back free position goals. Pfefferkorn passed the ball up to Tricia Sands who drilled it into the back of the cage to allow the Warriors to extend their lead to 6-4. Despite a last minute goal by the Senators, Southern Wesleyan maintained the lead at the half with a 6-5 lead.
Southern Wesleyan would not let Davis & Elkins discourage them as they came back from the half swinging. Tabitha Beecher pass the ball around the cage to Kelsey Hawkins who put it back into the cage to put the Warriors lead 7-5. The Warriors continued to push ahead as Amy Pfefferkorn and Betsy Bovee scored back-to-back quickly to give them a 9-5 goal advantage over the Senators. Davis & Elkins challenged back as Samantha Cozzolino and Angelina Horan to cut Southern Wesleyan to a two-goal advantage. A man-up free position goal by Pfefferkorn allowed the Warriors to regain their three goal advantage with just over twenty minutes left in the second half. The Senators would not let up as they went on a four point run to tie the game 11-11. Despite a goal by Tabitha Beecher, Davis & Elkins won the game 15-12.

Southern Wesleyan will travel for their next three games. They will kick-off the the week against the Coker Cobras on March 9. They will then take on the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on March 11 before concluding their week on the road at Barton on March 14.
