Warriors Fall to Crusaders

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the double header against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 16-4 and 19-8 final score.

The Warriors had four hits in the loss.  Ty King Richards led the team with two hits.  Dawson Posick hit the lone home run for the Warriors and King Richards record the lone double.  Posick went on to lead the team with all four of the team's RBIs.  Five Warriors walked.  Cole Standifer started game one for the Warriors.  Bryson Fowler, Devyn Bond, Vinny Adams and Sandy Johnson all came in to pitch in relief.  Fowler led the team with five strikeouts.

The Warriors posted 12 hits during the game two loss.  Ty King Richards and Tyler Fuller each had two hits during the game.  King Richards, Dawson Posick and DJ Ludwick all doubled during the game, and Devin Patrick hit a home run.  Southern Wesleyan had six RBIs with Timo Schau and Devin Patrick both recorded two.  Five Warriors walked, and Hunter Garlington, Will Pitts and Ludwick all had stolen bases.  Parker Pillsbury started game two for the Warriors.  Laython McLean and Tanner Glass came in to pitch in relief, recording five strikeouts during the game.

How It Happened

Game One

Belmont Abbey attacked the Southern Wesleyan Warriors defense early as they plated eight runs in the top of the first inning.

Southern Wesleyan plated their only runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning.  Parker Pillsbury led off the inning with a walk and then advanced to second on a single to center field by Tanner Glass.  Devin Patrick then walked to load up the bases.  With the bases loaded, Dawson Posick homered to center field to cut the Crusaders lead in half.

However, the Crusaders continued to push ahead as they scored in the top of the third, fifth and seventh innings to win the first game of the day 16-4.

Game Two

Belmont Abbey continued their attack in the top of the first inning of game two of the afternoon as the Crusaders brought in seven runs across home plate.

Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the first inning.  Timo Schau led off with a walk and then advanced to second on a ground out by Ty King Richards.  With Schau on second, Tyler Fuller singled to center field to bring Schau in to score.  Fuller advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Tanner Glass followed with a single to left field.  With two on, Devin Patrick walked to load up the bases.  A passed ball allowed Fuller to come in and put the Warriors down 7-2.

Belmont Abbey put up three more runs in the top of the second and third innings.  In the bottom of the third inning and with one out, Tyler Fuller singled up the middle.  Dawson Posick followed with a double to right center to bring Fuller in.  The Warriors were not done as Devin Patrick hit his first home run of the season over the right center wall to put the Warriors down 10-5.

The Crusaders scored once more in the top of the fourth inning, but the Warriors countered in the bottom of the inning.  Sawyer Price led off with a single up the middle and then advanced to third as DJ Ludwick doubled down the left field line.  With two runners in scoring position, Timo Schau singled down the right field line to bring both Price and Ludwick in to score.  Ty King Richards doubled to move Schau to third, and then Tyler Fuller walked to load up the bases.  A ground out by Tanner Glass allowed Schau to come in and score to make the score 11-8.

Belmont Abbey would bring eight more runs in to score to give them a 19-8 victory over Southern Wesleyan.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on North Georgia on March 4.  They will then travel to Due West, SC to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet on March 6-7.
