How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan was the first to put runs on the board in the game against Truett-McConnell.  Timo Schau led off the first inning by walking and then stole second base to get in scoring position.  A single to center field by Parker Pillsbury advanced Schau to third.  Pillsbury then stole second base to put both within scoring position and bring Tanner Glass up to bat.  Glass grounded out to short, but Schau reached home to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Parker Pillsbury reached base again as he walked.  Tanner Glass singled down the left field line to advance Pillsbury to second.  With two on and one out, Pillsbury and Ty King Richards, who was pinch running for Glass, each stole a base to put them both in scoring position.  The Bears then intentionally walked Jarred Jones to load up the bases and bring Dawson Posick up to bat.  Posick drilled a double down the left field line to bring both Pillsbury and King Richards in and put the Warrior ahead 3-0.  With runners on the corners, Devin Patrick hit a sacrifice fly to right center that allowed Jones to score and give Southern Wesleyan a 4-0 lead.

Southern Wesleyan attached again in the fourth inning.  Sean Sutay reached first on a single to left center and then adanced to second on a single through the hole at shortstop by DJ Ludwick.  With two runners on, Timo Schau hit a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up one base each.  Parker Pillsbury hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Sutay to score to extend their lead to 5-0.

Truett-McConnell countered in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating one run to put the score at 5-1.  The Bears continued to chip away in the bottom of the eighth inning, bringing three more runs in to cut Southern Wesleyan's lead to 5-4.

However, Southern Wesleyan would not be discouraged.  Leading off for the Warriors in the top of the ninth inning, Parker Pillsbury took two balls before drilling his first home run of the season over the right field wall to give the Warriors a two run advantage.  Aaron Bennett came in to close out the game for Southern Wesleyan, sitting down the next three batters to allow the Warriors to pick up their third win of the season.
