Southern Wesleyan Falls to Belmont Abbey in Conference Play

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in game one of the three game series against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 6-3 final score.

The Warriors collected seven hits in the loss to the Crusaders.  Ty King Richards and Devin Patrick led the team with two hits apiece.  Tanner Glass recorded the lone RBIs for the Warriors as he hit a two-run home run.  Four Warriors walked during the game, and King Richards and Timo Schau had the lone stolen bases.

Jarred Jones started the game for the Warriors.  Jones collected two strikeouts over 1.1 innings before Aaron Bennett came in to pitch in relief.  Bennett lasted seven innings while striking out nine batters.  Devyn Bond closed out the game for Southern Wesleyan.

How It Happened

The Crusaders attacked in the top of the third inning as they brought four runners in to score to give them a 4-0 run advantage over the Warriors.  They extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning to give them a 6-0 lead.

Southern Wesleyan would not give up, however Belmont Abbey kept the Warriors off the board until the bottom of the seventh inning.  Parker Pillsbury reached first base on a walk.  Tanner Glass then set a ball rocketing over the wall in left center for his second home run of the season and bring Pillsbury home.  The home run by Glass put the Warriors down 6-2.

The Warriors continued to chip away in the bottom of the eighth inning.  DJ Ludwick led off the inning with a single to left center and then advanced to second on a ground out by Timo Schau.  A ground out by Ty King Richards advanced Ludwick to third.  With a runner 90-feet from home, a passed ball allowed Ludwick to come home and make the score 6-3.

The Warriors continued to fight in the bottom of the ninth inning, loading up the bases with only one out.  However, Southern Wesleyan could not take the lead, dropping the game 6-3.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will conclude their three game series against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders tomorrow at noon and three.  They will then travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on the North Georgia Nighthawks at 4 p.m.  The Warriors will remain on the road on March 6-7 as they take on the Erskine Flying Fleet.
