Warriors Drop First Conference Games of the Season to Lions

Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan dropped the first two games of the three game series to the Emmanuel Lions in a 6-5 and 3-1 final score.

The Warriors recorded 10 hits during the game with three player's recorded two hits apiece.  Both Timo Schau and Devin Patrick recorded doubles during the game.  Parker Pillsbury and Kole Rogers each recorded two RBIs during the game.  Four Warriors walked during the game and Southern Wesleyan left 10 people on base.  DJ Ludwick and Pillsbury each stole a base.  Devyn Bond pitched the first three innings of the game, collecting one strike out while walking five batters.  Vinny Adams and Bryson Fowler came in to pitch in relief.

Southern Wesleyan posted six hits in game two with Timo Schau and Bryson Fowler leading the team with two hits each.  Fowler had the lone double for Southern Wesleyan while Schau posted a triple.  Devin Patrick had the lone RBI for the Warriors.  Parker Pillsbury was the lone Warrior to walk during the game and Schau had the lone stolen base.  Cole Standifer pitched a complete game for the Warriors, striking out six batters.

How It Happened

Game One

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the top of the first inning.  Timo Schau led off the inning with a single to left field and then advanced to second as DJ Ludwick singled to left field.  With two on, Parker Pillsbury singled to left field to bring Schau home.  Ludwick then stole third to put him in scoring position.  As Pillsbury stole second base, Ludwick came in to score to put the Warriors on top 2-0.

The Lions countered in the bottom of the first inning, plating one run.  Emmanuel continued to length their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as they brought four more runs in to score.

Southern Wesleyan began to chip away at Emmanuel's lead in the top of the seventh inning.  With one out, Ty King Richards singled to second base and then advanced to third as Timo Schau doubled to right center field.  A fielder's choice allowed DJ Ludwick to reach first base, but King Richards was out at home.  Parker Pillsbury walked to load up the bases.  With the bases loaded, Kole Rogers singled down the left field line to bring both Schau and Ludwick in and put the Warriors down 4-6.

In the top of the ninth inning, Ty King Richards singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  DJ Ludwick singled to first base to advance King Richards to third.  With runners at the corners, Parker Pillsbury flew out to left field to bring King Richards in to score.  The Warriors rally was halted as the Lions won game one in a 5-6 final score.

Game Two

Emmanuel took the first run of the game as they took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.  The Lions the extended their lead in the bottom of the third as they brought in two more runs to put them on top 3-0.

Southern Wesleyan challenged in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Bryson Fowler singled to center field and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch.  With Fowler in scoring position, Devin Patrick singled to center field to bring Fowler home.  However, the Warriors dropped the game 3-1.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will conclude the series against the Emmanuel Lions on February 23 at 2 p.m.  They will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on February 25 as they welcome the Goshen Maple Leaves at 4 p.m.  The Warriors will remain at home on February 28-29 as they host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
