Southern Wesleyan Drops Non-Conference Game to Mars Hill

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in the non-conference game against the Mars Hill Lions in a 1-0 final score.

The Warriors recorded five hits in the loss to the Lions.  Devin Patrick led the team with two hits.  Both Patrick and Tanner Glass doubled during the game.  Four Warriors walked during the game.  Southern Wesleyan left nine runners on base during the game.

Southern Wesleyan recorded 10 strikeouts during the game.  Tanner Glass started the game for the Warriors and pitched three innings while striking out three batters.  Six Warriors came in to pitch in relief.  Of the relief pitchers, Rett Wages, Laython McLean and Aaron Bennett each had two strikeouts each.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan challenged Mars Hill in the first as Tanner Glass doubled and Parker Pillsbury was hit by pitch to put two runners how.  However, a fielder's choice ended the inning without the Warriors scoring.

The Warriors threatened again in the bottom of the fourth as Devin Patrick led off the inning with a double to right field, but then the next three batters grounded out to conclude the attack.

Mars Hill went on to put only run on the board in the top of the sixth inning.  Tayler Lala doubled to left field and then came in to score on a single by Mawhinney to win the game.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on February 14-15 as they welcome the Virginia-Wise Cavaliers to Dr. C Keith Connor Field.  The Warriors will then travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on the North Georgia Nighthawks on February 18 at 2 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 21-22 as they open up Conference Carolinas action against the Emmanuel Lions.
