Warriors Put Up Fight Against Trojans

Mount Olive, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the University of Mount Olive Trojans in double header action on Friday afternoon.  The Trojans took game one 3-2 and game one 2-1.

The Warriors recorded three hits in the game one loss.  Lexi Thompson boasted a double in the game.  Riley Herdliska and Megan New each had an RBI during the game.  Becca White and Thompson each stole bases during the game, and Herdliska had a sacrifice fly.  Josie Edwards started game one and pitched four innings while striking out one.  Hunter Hoskins finished out the game for the Warriors.

Southern Wesleyan recorded seven hits in game two, with Maddie Ward and Megan New leading the team with two hits apiece.  Lucy Wolff had the lone RBI.  Hunter Hoskins pitched a complete game and struck out three in the loss.

How It Happened

Game One

Southern Wesleyan led off in the top of the first inning.  Lexi Thompson led off with a walk and then stole second to get in scoring position.  Maddie Ward advanced Thompson to third on a single to left field.  A sacrifice fly by Riley Herdliska allowed Thompson to score to put Southern Wesleyan on top 1-0.

Mount Olive tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the third.  Becca White reached first base on an error and then advanced to second on the throw.  Lexi Thompson followed to put two on.  A double steal put both runners in scoring position and then Makaila Irby was hit by a pitch to load up the bases.  A walk to Megan New brought White in to put the Warriors on top 2-1.

The Trojans tied the game at two in the bottom of the third.  They went on to win 3-2 on a walk-off singled by Allen.

Game Two

Mount Olive jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the fifth inning.  Addie Nugent reached on a fielding error by the second baseman.  Lucy Wolff reached on a fielding error that brought Nugent in to score and allow the Warriors to tie the game 1-1.

Despite tying the game, Mount Olive won the game 2-1.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain on April 14 as they take on the Barton College Bulldogs at 2 and 4 p.m.  The Warriors will then return home to take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet on April 17.
