Box Score 2 Spartanburg, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept the Converse Valkyries in 3-2 and 3-0 final scores to win their first conference games of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Southern Wesleyan posted five hits in their first Conference Carolinas win of the season. Becca White and Megan New led the team with two hits apiece. White and New each had one RBI during the game. Amber Belk posted two of the four walks issued to the Warriors. Both White and Belk recorded stolen bases, and White posted a sacrifice bunt. Hunter Hoskins pitched a complete game and struck out five batters in her sixth win of the season.
The Warriors posted seven hits in the game two victory. Sophomore Becca White led the team with three hits. Megan New led the team with two RBIs on the day and Maddie Ward posted a sacrifice bunt. White had two stolen bases during the game. Hunter Hoskins pitched her second complete game of the afternoon, posting three strikeouts while allowing eight hits.

How It Happened
Game One
The Warriors took the lead in the top of the third inning. Amber Belk led off with a walk and then stole second base. Natalie Johnson flew out to right field to move Belk to third base. With a runner in scoring position, Becca White singled down the left field line to bring Belk in to put the Warriors up 1-0.
Southern Wesleyan lengthened their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Mikaila Irby walked and Kassidy Hamrick came in to run for the designated player. Hamrick advanced to second on a ground out by Maddie Ward. A single by Megan New allowed Hamrick to come in and score to give Southern Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Amber Belk walked and then stole second. A walk to Natalie Johnson put two runners on and brought Becca White up to the plate. White hit a sacrifice bunt that advanced both runners and then Belk came in to score on a throwing error.
Southern Wesleyan won game one of the two game series in a 3-2 final score.
Game Two
Southern Wesleyan took the lead in the top of the fourth. Lexi Thompson singled to left field and then advanced to second base on a single to left by Mikaila Irby. Kassidy Hamrick came in to pinch run for Irby. A sacrifice bunt by Maddie Ward advanced the runners. With both runners in scoring position, Megan New singled to deep center field to bring both across home plate and give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. The Warriors went on to win the game 2-0.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Emmanuel on March 27. They will then travel to North Georgia to take on the Nighthawks on March 28.
