Warriors Fall In Double Header Versus Canes

Americus, GA – Southern Wesleyan dropped a doubled to the GA Southwestern Canes in 9-1 and 5-4 final scores.

In game one, the Warriors posted four hits.  Megan New posted the lone RBI for the Warriors while Becca White had the lone run.  Kassidy Hamrick was the lone Warrior to walk during the game.  Grace McGuffin recorded a sacrifice bunt.  Lucy Wolff started game one and pitched one inning.  Josie Edwards came in to pitch in relief.

In game two, Southern Wesleyan put four hits on the board with Makaila Irby leading the team with two including a double.  Irby went on to have two of the Warriors three RBIs.  Three Warriors walked during the loss to the Canes.  Hunter Hoskins pitched the whole second game for Southern Wesleyan.  Hoskins struck out three while allowing seven hits.

How It Happened

Game One

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the top of the first inning.  Becca White put down a bunt single and then advanced to second then third on passed balls.  With two outs and White on third, Megan New singled to right field to allow White to come in and score to put the Warriors up 1-0.

GA Southwestern countered in the bottom of the first inning to score three runs to take a 3-1 lead.  The Canes scored at least once each inning to push their lead to 9-1 to win the game.

 

Game Two

Southern Wesleyan took the lead in the top of the third inning.  Grace McGuffin reached first on a walk and then advanced to second when Megan New grounded out.  Makaila Irby doubled to left field and then McGuffin in to put the Warriors up 1-0.

GA Southwestern countered in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With the bases loaded, Barlow hit a home run to centerfield to put the Canes up 4-1.

The Warriors would not go down without a fight.  Megan New singled to center field.  Micah Williams came in to pinch run.  Makalia Irby doubled to right field to bring Williams home to make the score 4-2.  Maddie Ward followed with a walk and then Kassidy Hamrick walked to load up the bases.  With the bases loaded, Hunter Hoskins was hit by a pitch to bring in a third run.  With two outs and the bases loaded, Becca White reached first on an error to bring Ward home and tie the game.  The Canes came back to win the game 5-4.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Young Harris to take on the Mountain Lions on February 21st.  They will then host their first home series of the season on March 4 as the GA Southwestern Canes came to Varsity Field for games at 3 and 5 p.m.
