Coach Morrell says...
"I am really proud of this team tonight. We had two upperclassmen out tonight and some freshman had to step up. First 15-20 minutes was rough, but we settled down and played really well. Two goals by two newcomers as well. It was a great first game!"
How It Happened
Bob Jones led the way, taking several shots on goal within the first twenty minutes of play. However, the Warriors fought back, with seniors Kayla Doyle and Beth Spence taking several shots on goal. Helen Schweiger scored the first goal for the Warriors after a corner kick by senior Doyle brought the ball straight to her. The Warriors were not done yet, as sophomore Rachel Curtis struck with minutes left in the first half of the game to give Southern Wesleyan a 2-0 lead over the Bruins going into the half.
Southern Wesleyan did not slow after the end of halftime with Kayla Doyle, Ashley Romanowski, and Rachel Curtis making several shots on goal in the first minute and half of play. However, the Warriors attempts at a third goal were thwarted by the Bruins until Curtis got around the defense to score her second goal of the game. The Warriors were not done, as freshman Ally Kisiel scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Charlie Brown. The Bruins quickly retaliated to score their one and only goal of the game. Despite their one goal, the Warriors took the victory in their opening game of the 2017 season in a 4-1 final score.
