How It Happened

Lucia Fernandez looked to give the Warriors an early lead as she drilled the ball toward the net, but the Lions defense blocked her shot on the net right inside the box.  The Warriors continued their attacks as a free kick allowed Breena Duffy to put up a shot, but Ana Ramirez-Cortes was able to collect the attack on the net.  A foul in the box allowed Jillian Aldrich to go to the penalty mark just eleven minutes into the game.  Aldrich sent the ball toward the net, but Ester Carabano dove to the side to prevent the Lions from taking the lead.  The Warriors persisted on their attacks as Ashley Caballero put up a shot from just outside the corner of the box, but Rameriz-Cortes would not let Caballero's attack find the back of the net.  Leah Chavez put up a deep shot on the net, but once again Carabano was able to collect the ball.  Despite several more attacks on the net by the Lions, the game remained tied up at half time.

Southern Wesleyan continued their attacks as Breena Duffy put up another shot, but her shot sailed just high.  The Warriors pressed on as Brianna Gonzalez broke away from the Lions and put up a shot, but Ana Rameriz-Cortes collected the ball to keep Southern Wesleyan off the board.  Madison Stanley bounced the ball over Ramirez-Cortes' head, but she was able to get a hand on the ball to prevent Stanley's shot from finding the net.  Southern Wesleyan's attacks paid off as Jessie Parrott threw the ball in right to the feet of Ashley Caballero.  Caballero quickly crossed the ball into the box to Lucia Fernandez who tapped it into the goal to give the Warriors the first goal of the game.  The Lions answered as Emma Hanley and Sofia Beckford each put up shots, but Ester Carabano was able to knock each attack away.  A foul in the box allowed Emily Chavez to take a penalty kick and score to tie the game up at one.  Brianna Gonzalez put up another shot, but Ana Ramirez-Cortes prevented the Warriors from taking back the lead.  The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
