How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan looked to go on the attack early on as Emily Lorenzo sent the ball toward the lower corner of the net, but Karis Eccleston was able to get on the ball to prevent the Warriors from gaining the first goal of the game.  The Warriors continued to press as, with Eccleston pulled out of the net, Brianna Gonzalez put up a shot.  However, the Hawks back line was there and knocked the ball away before it found the net.  Shorter answered as Evann Yake took a shot of her own, but Ester Carabano collected the ball to prevent the Hawks from getting on the board.  With just around twenty minutes left in the half, Lorenzo crossed the ball to right in front of the goal.  Gonzalez collected the ball and ricochetted it off of Eccleston and into the goal to give the Warriors a 1-0 goal advantage.  Just a couple minutes later a foul allowed Ashley Caballero to take a free kick.  Caballero sent the ball deep into the box to Breena Duffy who tapped it into the goal to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to two.  Seconds later, Caballero sent the ball in off a corner kick and Karina Pashkovets headed it into the goal.  Southern Wesleyan would not back down as Lucia Fernandez drilled the ball toward the net, but the Shorter backline got in the way to prevent the Warriors from scoring again.  The Warriors were not done as in the final seconds of the first half, Addison Mack crossed the ball right in front of the goal to Alli Dalton.  Dalton tapped the ball in to give the Warriors a 4-0 goal lead at halftime.

The Warriors persisted in the second half as Helen Posey charged to the goal to put in a shot, but Karis Eccleston was able to corral the ball.  Shorter challenged as the offensive line got past the Warriors, but Ella Beasley was able to regain control and knock the ball away before the Hawks could execute their attack.  The Hawks rushed down the field once again, but the Warriors back line worked together to knock the ball away.  Madison Stanley sent the ball in toward the goal, but Eccleston was there once again to keep the Warriors from scoring in the second half.  Southern Wesleyan persisted as Stanley crossed the ball into the box right to the feet of Brianna Gonzalez.  Gonzalez set the ball up and sent it past the diving Eccleston to give the Warriors a 5-0 goal advantage with just over twenty minutes left to play.  Shorter looked to get on the board as Evann Yake put up a shot, but her attack rolled just wide of the goal.  Southern Wesleyan pressed on as Ella Beasley collected the ball and drilled it over the goalkeeper's head for her first collegiate goal.  Brianna Gonzalez wove to the net once again, but Anna Kate Welch dove on her attack to prevent it from finding the back of the net.  Shorter's Kaylin Stallings looked to find the lower corner of the net, but Hannah Weider would not let the Hawks break into Southern Wesleyan's shutout.  The Warriors walked away with a 6-0 shut over the Hawks to conclude the regular season.
