Warriors Fall to Trojans

Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan falls against the University of Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening in a final of 5-2.

The Warriors posted seven hits in the loss the Trojans.  John Garrett and Conner Ewing both posted two hits in the loss to lead Southern Wesleyan.  Ewing and Quinton Bent both hit home runs to give the Warriors their only RBIs of the game.  Avery Mahon hit into a sacrifice bunt and Christian Ketchup posted a stolen base.

Mike Batten started the first game of the three game series against the Mount Olive Trojans.  Batten went 5.2 innings and struck out five batters while allowing five hits.  Jordan Finster came in to pitch in relief, striking out six while allowing one hit.

How It Happened

The Trojans struck first, scoring two runs on a home run by Surum in the top of the first.  However, Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the second inning.  Conner Ewing led off the inning with a home run over the left field wall to cut the Trojans lead in half.  Quinton Bent followed Ewing with his first home run of the season to tie the game 2-2. 

The Warriors kept the Trojans scoreless until the top of the third inning when they took a 3-2 lead.  They advanced their lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth and then went on to win the first game of the three game series on a home run by Surum to win 5-2.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will continue their three game series on Saturday, April 8 at 1 pm.  They will then take on Toccoa Falls on April 11 at 6pm and Brevard on April 12.  The Warriors will then travel to Barton College to take on the Bulldogs on April 14 and 15.
