How It Happened

Game One

The Warriors struck early in their first Conference Carolinas game of the season against the Emmanuel College Lions.  Sara Sweatt reached first base on a bunted single and then stole second base to put her in scoring position with freshman Kali Berrigan up to bat.  Berrigan sacrificed herself to bring her teammate to third base and then a sacrifice ground out by Alex Oliver brought Sweatt home to give Southern Wesleyan the first run of the game.

Southern Wesleyan struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Lexi Thompson walked and then was moved to second on a bunt single by Tiffany Cathey.  Becca White walked to load the bases to bring Sara Sweat up to bat.  Sweatt hit a single to shallow center field to bring Thompson home and give the Warriors a 2-0 lead over the Lions.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lions countered with one run to bring the game to 2-1.  They struck again in the top of the seventh inning to score three runs and take a 6-2 lead over the Warriors.  Southern Wesleyan would not go down quietly, loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning.  However, they could not get the win as the Lions took game one 6-2.

Game Two

The Lions quickly took a 2-0 lead in game two of the Conference Carolinas matchup.  The Warriors countered in the bottom of the third inning.  With two outs, Becca White walked and then advanced to second on a walk by Shelby Stroud.  Lizzie Fela then hit a single to bring White home to put the Warriors on the board 2-1 behind Emmanuel.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Southern Wesleyan threatened yet again.  Amber Belk walked and then moved on to second when Natalie Johnson walked to first.  Belk then went on to steal third base.  Sara Sweatt walked to load the bases for the Warriors with two outs.  Becca White then walked again to bring the tying run home.

However, the Lions were not done, taking a 3-2 lead on a passed ball.  They went on to score two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to win the second game 5-2.
