Warriors Fall in Double Header Versus Mars Hill

The Warriors faced Mars Hill University Lions on Saturday afternoon. After putting up a fight, the Warriors ended with the Lions leading in final game scores of  8-2 and 9-3.

 

In game one Sara Sweatt led the Warriors with two hits, followed by Lizzie Fela, Becca White, and Michaela Wickham all with a hit each. Fela had the only RBI of the game. Becca White and Kali Berrigan led the Warriors with two stolen bases. Starter pitcher Josie Edwards allowed seven hits and had five runs against her.

 

In game two, the Warriors were led by Kelly Cooper with three hits. She was followed by Sweatt, Tiffany Cathey, Makaila Irby, and Lexi Thompson with one each. Makaila Irby, Shelby Stroud, and Lizzie Fela had a RBI each. Sweatt was the only Warrior with a stolen base this game. Starting pitcher for game two, Lucy Wolff allowed 10 hits and had eight runs against her.

How It Happened

Game One

The first game started in the 2nd inning when Mars Hill was the first to get on the board when they started the game leading the Warriors 2-0. The Warriors put up a good defense but did not get themselves on the board until the bottom of the 6th inning when Kali Berrigan stole home to put the Warriors at 5-2. Lizzie Fela singled to center field and sent Becca White home to give the Warriors their last score of the game, which eventually led to a 8-2 loss.

 

Game Two

The Lions started the second game strong and ended the 1st inning with a 3-0 lead. The Warriors fought but did not put themselves on the board until the 3rd inning when Tiffany Cathey singled to send Lexi Thompson home and put the score at 5-1.

The Warriors didn't strike again until the 6th inning when Shelby Stroud grounded out and sent Sara Sweatt home. Lizzie Fela was at bat next and ground out which sent Cathey home. The Warriors did not score again and ultimately ended the game with a final of 9-3.

 

 

What's Next

The Warriors have their first away game Friday, March 3 at Brevard. They take the road again on Saturday, March 4 at Tusculum.
