Coach Staton Says…

"I was pleased at how our season opener went.  The first few games are always exciting games to play.  There are so many emotions going around that you can't help but love the atmosphere on the diamond.  Even though it wasn't the outcome we were hoping for, I believe the team played well and left everything out on the field.  I'm proud of the way they came together tonight as a team."

How It Happened

Game One

The Warriors were first to put themselves on the board with a pop-up by Lizzie Fela, advancing Maddie Ward and moving Sara Sweatt home to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead over Anderson.  The Trojans were quick to strike back with a 5-run inning in the top of the 2nd.

The game flat lined until the top of the 4th inning when the Warriors put themselves back in the game with a 2-RBI single by Hunter Hoskins, advancing Lexi Thompson to second and allowing Amber Belk and Alex Oliver to cross homeplate to score.  The RBIs by Hoskins allowed the Warriors to come to 5-3 behine Anderson.

The Trojans fought back quickly in the top of the 5th when their right fielder scored. The game stayed scoreless for the remainder of the game leaving the final score of the game at 6-3.

Game Two

Anderson Trojans did not allow the Warriors to take the lead first in the second game.  The Trojans' second baseman walked and quickly found her way around the bases to give Anderson an 1-0 lead over the Warriors.

The Warriors took the lead in the 2nd inning when Sara Sweatt and Maddie Ward scored.  Sweatt was walked to get on first base.  Sweatt was brought around to home plate to score on a double by Ward.  Later in the inning, Oliver singled to drive in Ward and gave the Warriors the lead with a score of 2-1.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the 5th when the Trojans had an impressive 5-run inning.  After the first three runs in the inning, Josie Edwards took the mound and allowed two additional runs that inning before getting the last out to bring the score to 6-2. Anderson struck again in the top of the 7th with a run, making the score 7-2.

The game however, was not over as the Warriors put up a fight until the very end.  Becca White and Sweatt both scored in the bottom of the 7th when Lizzie Fela reached base on an error made by a Trojan infielder.  These were the only runs in the bottom of the 7th but the Warriors minimalized the gap and made the final score 7-4.
