Coach Morrell says…
"It was a great effort tonight, CIU played really well and controlled a lot of moments within the game. Our rhythm and touch was off a bit tonight so it looked sloppy at times, but the effort was always there. That's what I'm most proud of, when you're just off a little but you make up for that with effort and find a way through the game!"
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first eight minutes into the first half of play with a goal by freshman Ally Kisiel to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Rams drove the ball down several times, but Courtney McNeill blocked their attacks. However, the Rams scored on a penalty kick by McKenzie Miller to tie the game 1-1. The tie was short lived, as Ashley Romanowski wove around the Ram defense to bring the ball to the net and give the Warriors a 2-1 lead going into half time.
Columbia International threatened several times after halftime, but the Warriors defense kept the Rams from tying the game again. Southern Wesleyan lengthen their lead to 3-1 when Rachel Curtis passed the ball to Charlie Brown. Brown took the ball to the net to score her second goal of the season. The Warriors won in a 3-1 final.
