How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan pressured early in the first half, with two blocked shots by Kayla Doyle and Ashley Romanowski.  Chowan countered with two shots on goal that were saved by Courtney McNeill.  Despite pressure by the Warriors defense, the Hawks struck first in the quarter final when Sierra Gonzalez scored a goal to give Chowan a 1-0 lead.  Ashley Romanowski drove the ball toward the net, almost allowing the Warriors to tie the game, but goal keeper Olivia Borer swept down to take the goal away.  The Hawks tried to lengthen their lead, but each of their attempts were thwarted by Courtney McNeill and the Warriors defense.  Aline Troyano took a shot that went wide in an attempt to tie the game.

The Warriors started strong in the second half with shots by Helen Schweiger, Ally Kisiel and Mallory Butler.  On a penalty kick, the Hawks pulled ahead to take a 2-0 lead over the Warriors.  Beth Spence took a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Hawks goal keeper Olivia Borer.  Southern Wesleyan fought to put points on the board, with shots on goal by Amber Goss and Marla Burgos, but Chowan's goalkeeper kept the balls out of the net.  Chowan won the game in a 2-0 final.
